Home Solutions Eliminating Sleep-Related Deaths Overview

Eliminating Sleep-Related Deaths

We are working together to ensure that every baby lives to see its first birthday. Parents and caregivers can help by following the ABCDs of Safe Sleep: Alone, on their Back, in an empty Crib, and Don't smoke.

We lose the equivalent of a Kindergarten classroom of babies each year to preventable, sleep-related deaths.

In the past decade, more than 200 babies in Cuyahoga County died from preventable sleep-related causes, almost all of them through accidental suffocation.

Preparing your baby to go to sleep is an opportunity or a risk. Make sure everyone in your baby's life  — parents, grandparents, siblings, other relatives, child care providers — know and follow the ABCDs of safe sleep. Every nap time, and every bedtime. It's the safest thing for babies.

Explore our resources and toolkit to learn more. And take FYC Action Team 9's Safe Sleep Heroes training to be sure you have the latest information to keep babies safe!
